“What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future.” – Agnes M. Pahro My mom sat on the couch orchestrating our Christmas decorating. Her abilities surpassed what me, my brother and father combined would ever be able to do. While we had some creative license, we happily served as the crew to bring her vision to life. I remember that one particular task required a lot of coordination: especially for a small child! She would carefully pick out two thin strips of metallic paper. When she pulled them out, she delicately lined them up evenly and held them out for us to carefully grab in the middle. We were then tasked to lay the two strips over an empty branch on the tree. Reflections on watching the Waldo Canyon Fire descend

06/26/12 I spent the day soaking in the insane heat of the Colorado sun today. I worked in the yard picking out of the rocks every little weed I could find, watering the flowers I bought and planted on Saturday—the day the Waldo Canyon Fire broke out—and labeling things in the garage. I was in denial. Certainly this danger would be like the hurricanes we dodged in Ft. Lauderdale, FL or the tornadoes that skirted past us in Aurora, IL. We would scurry around preparing things only to find that we piled all our stuff in the middle of the floor for a false alarm or huddled in the basement with wide eyes only for our vegetable garden to get rained on. I decided a couple days ago that if I saw the flames come up over the ridge that it would be time to go. But when I saw the first glimpse of flames…not coming from behind, but already an inch down the mountain, I couldn’t believe it. Is it really time? Could this be happening? Transitions are a Time to be Generous

The idea of being a Generous Mind is at the core of what God has called Mindy and I to devote our lives. But exactly what we are being generous with has gone through various changes and will continue to change as we obediently follow God's leading and direction. Today we would like to share three major transitions in our lives. They will seem very distinct but in God's timing they actually are all very connected. These three transitions can fit under the general category of 1) Our Job 2) Our Writing 3) Our Family A Job Change For the past four and a half years it has been our great pleasure and joy to serve HCJB Global, a ministry that focuses on media and healthcare outreaches around the world. I have served in the area of marketing and communications and have had the opportunity to help the 78 year old organization re-brand and redefine its message for a new time.
